1:43pm The Phils are wrapping up their 4-game series in Cincinnati now.  They won Thursday night before dropping the last two.  They are sitting at 58-46 on the season, in first place in the NL East, 2 and a half games ahead of the Braves.
1:40pm Just had a nice visit from mom on this gorgeous day.  Think I will sit outside on the front porch for a little while.
1:36pm Happy Sunday! "The Lord your God is with you; the mighty one will save you.  He will rejoice over you.  You will rest in His love; He will sing and be joyful about you."                                                                                         ---- Zephaniah 3:17
10:20am "Behold I set before you this day, a blessing and a curse.  A blessing if ye obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day.  And a curse if ye will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known".                                                                                    ---- Deuteronomy 11:26-28
10:17am Great first week at T&F.  Very nice people and a relaxed and comfortable work environment.  Looking forward to a long and successful career with this company.  :)

6:50am My first day of work at Taylor & Francis.  Matt is picking me up in 20 minutes and then we are heading to the train station.  It will be an interesting experience riding the train to work every day.  Ready to go!

6:48am The Phillies end the first half of the season in first place in NL East at 53-42, a half game ahead of the Braves.  There were some positives and some negatives but being in first place is a miracle unto itself.  We are now in the All-Star break.  The season resumes on Friday.
6:46am Yesterday we had a real nice birthday/grad party at my sister's house.  Always great hanging out with my wonderful family!  😎
10:50am Feeling good about things right now.  I start my new job on Monday and I am very excited about it.  Hopefully this will be the last time I will have to do job hunting.  The last few years have been difficult with all the downsizing and offshoring, which affects many people globally.  It is tough navigating your career with all that going on.  It's a blessing to have a good job or really just a job at all.  We all try to get a job that is fairly close to home, has good benefits and pays well.  And one that we enjoy doing.  I feel that this new job fits that bill.  I know many friends have struggled in this environment and I continue to pray that all of them find something that they enjoy.  Most already have, others are still looking.  We must keep the faith and work hard.  Life usually has a way of working out.                                         Happy Saturday everyone!

9:50am Quiet and relaxing Saturday morning, drinking coffee and listening to music.  As good as it gets!

9:35am Last night the Phils beat the Marlins 2-0 behind seven shutout innings from Jake Arrieta and coupled with Atlanta's loss, the Phils lead NL East by one and a half games with two games left in Miami before the all-star break.  Their record is now 53-40, which is just one game behind the Brewers for best record in the National League.  Wow.  Better than I could have possibly imagined!  😎💪👍

9:30am Yesterday I had a nice walk in the park.  One solid hour, 6500 steps.  It feels good to exercise like that.  Along with my weight loss, eating better and staying in shape, I think I am making good choices to live a longer and healthier life.
10:25am A quiet Friday morning listening to music.  My last day off (not counting this weekend).  Back to work on Monday!  😀👍
12:22pm A lazy Thursday.  I may do a little reading but right now just trying to get rid of an annoying headache.

10:56pm Tonight in NY, the Mets beat the Phils 3-0 in 10 innings on a walkoff 3-run HR.  The teams split the 4-game series and with the Braves win tonight, the Phils and Braves are once again tied for first place in NL East.  The Phils are now 51-40 on the season.

Tonight in NY, the Phils beat the Mets 7-3 to take over sole possession of first place in NL East.  They now lead the second-place Braves by one game as they won for the 8th time in 10 games and improved to a season-high 12 games over. 500 at 51-39.

Today I went to KOP Mall and got my steps in, eventually gathering 10,675 steps.  It's been a long time since I topped 10,000 steps in a single day.  Afterward, I stopped at Washington Chapel for some quiet prayer.  A very rewarding day.

9:40am Last night in New York, the Phils split a doubleheader with the Mets.  NY won game 1, 4-3 in 10 innings while the Phils won the nightcap 3-1.  The Phils remained tied with Atlanta for first place in NL East.  They are 50-39 on the season.  They didn't reach 50 wins last season until August 31st.  Quite an impressive season so far.

9:02am I start my new job next week. Ready to get started.  Riding a train is going to be different.  The train schedules look very confusing but I'm hoping to get the hang of it quickly.  I think the toughest part will be adjusting to missing trains (which I'm sure everyone does) and then knowing when the next train is leaving.  I have fears of being stranded for a while waiting for the next train to arrive.  It looks like on the way home if I miss a train, I may be stuck waiting an hour for the next one.  That is not cool.  I will just have to make sure I catch the train I am scheduled to catch.  Still, if you work in the city, a train is the best way to go.  As I found out recently, driving is not the way to go when working in or near a major city and I don't miss that drive at all.   But the new job will be worth it.  Hopefully I can stay there for the rest of my career.  God willing.

8:38am Happy Sunday!  😃 "Loving God means obeying His commands.  And God's commands are not too hard for us, because everyone who is a child of God conquers the world.  And this is the victory that conquers the world -- our faith.  So the one who wins against the world is the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." ---- 1 John 5:3-5
The end of a nice Saturday.  Think I will do a little light reading and then head off to bed.  Good night.
Quiet, relaxing Saturday listening to music, writing in my blog, designing watch faces and updating my website.  Ah, technology!

"Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Jesus Christ". -- Romans 15:5
The weather is just gorgeous today.  After a week of high temps in the upper 90's with high humidity, the high temp today should only be in the upper 70's with low humidity and brilliant sunshine.  The AC is off and the windows are open!!

Last night in Pittsburgh, the Phillies beat the Pirates 17-5 to pull into a first place tie with Atlanta in National League East.  The Phils had a whopping 28 baserunners on 18 hits and 10 walks.  They saw 236 pitches.  At 4 hours and 30 minutes, it tied the NL record for longest 9-inning game in history and was only 15 minutes short of the all-time record!  So certainly not the most crisp game ever but who cares how you reach first place!  The Phils have won 5 straight and their record now stands at 48-37.  They haven't been this far over .500 since 2011, which was the last year they made the playoffs.  They still have issues which need to be addressed if they want to stay in the race longterm but the trade deadline is three weeks away and they have set themselves up to be buyers.  Let's hope they make decisions that will help them reach the playoffs for the first time in 7 years.  Let the scoreboard watching begin!!

The one thing about being off from work that I really love is being able to read my books.  It gives me great joy to read.  It is such a peaceful thing to do and really slows down life a bit.  I imagine in retirement there will be plenty of time to read.  But for now, I cherish every moment when I can open a book and take in every word.  One of the simple pleasures of life.

Look at this pic.  The last few weeks have shown most of the world burning up.  Many cities around the world have set record highs and some places have even set records for the highest 'low' temps.  And this is only going to get worse moving forward.  Talk about global warming!

       Happy Birthday America!  GO USA!!!!
The association is picking today -- the HOTTEST day of the year -- to paint the front and back doors.  Yikes!
I love this heat.  It can be a little rough being outside but I'd rather sweat than freeze!
